Thinking of a summer visit? Here’s your must-see list of ride closures and refurbishments so you can plan around the downtime.
🌐 Walt Disney World – Summer 2025 Closures
Already Closed or Closing Early:
- Muppet*Vision 3D (Hollywood Studios) – Closed June 7 to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. land
- PizzeRizzo (Grand Avenue) – Permanently closed June 7
- It’s Tough to Be a Bug! (Animal Kingdom) – Closed March 17

Major Summer Refurbishments:

- Test Track (EPCOT) – Closed for reimagining; reopening expected late summer 2025
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Magic Kingdom) – Closed for a lengthy refurbishment; anticipated reopening Spring 2026
- Astro Orbiter (Magic Kingdom) – Closed since January 13, reopening later this summer
- The Hall of Presidents (Magic Kingdom) – Currently closed for updates; no reopening yet
Frontierland Area Closures (From July 7):

- Rivers of America
- Tom Sawyer Island
- Liberty Square Riverboat
These three will close July 7 to make space for Piston Peak National Park, a new Cars-themed expansion in Frontierland
🎢 Universal Orlando – Summer 2025 Closures & Refurbishments

Scheduled Refurbishments:
- E.T. Adventure (Universal Studios FL) – Closed June 9–13 for routine maintenance
- Dr. Doom: Fear Fall (Islands of Adventure) – Closed June 16–20
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – Permanently closing August 18, 2025; area set for a new attraction
Other Notable Updates:
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Islands of Adventure) – Under refurbishment since April; no reopening date yet
- The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle – Still closed; reopening TBD
🗓️ What It Means for Your Summer Plans
- Hollywood Studios: MuppetVision fans — your last chance was early June.
- Magic Kingdom: Expect multiple closures, especially around Frontierland — reserve Lightning Lanes for your must-rides, and consider scheduling around heat.
- EPCOT & AK: EPCOT’s Test Track is offline until late summer; AK’s Tough to Be a Bug is gone.
- Universal: Short trip gaps in June; Rockit fans, say goodbye by mid-August.
